Happy New Year - 2024

body composition newsletter Feb 02, 2024

Welcome to the New Year!

All of us at GHBCI wish you a very Happy New Year! As we continue to hear from you about your body composition questions, we will keep providing unbiased and accurate answers - you can count on us!

It’s also the time of year for New Year’s Resolutions. No doubt, many people have weight loss or other body composition goals planned for 2024. That means that people will be looking for a way to measure body composition and how much it changes over time. Here are some things to remember:

  • Choose a method that has Low Error (Error < 3.5% fat) and Good Precision (repeatability).
    • Low Error because you want the measurement to be accurate.
  • Choose the right method and follow the recommended measurement procedures.
    • Good Precision because you want to be able to detect changes over time.
  • Follow the same protocol exactly when repeating measurements.
  • Make sure you make any repeat measurements using the same method as the original measurement.
  • Don’t measure too often! Every body composition method will vary from day to day, some more than others. So, to know you are measuring a real change rather than an artifact from the method, repeat the measurement no more frequently than 6 weeks.

If you aren’t sure about which method to choose, just shoot us an Email at [email protected] or Sign Up for our “Body Composition Practitioner” Course on our Website.

Have a Great Year!
